「巴勒斯坦」源於羅馬帝國的時候，當時哈得良平定猶太人第三次革命，[1]為了使猶太人忘記以色列，他廢除猶太行省，將以色列改名為巴勒斯坦，這名稱源於《舊約》的「非利士」，事實上，當時早已沒有非利士人了，只是引用名稱而已。
