我想起香港的護老院有很多冒險助人的照顧者。香港人口老化,超過六十歲的可能已經有一百五十萬人,老人院的絕大部份員工卻是缺乏心理培訓的照顧人員。在COVID的日子,在院舍照顧老人更是一種很有挑戰性及冒險性的工作,不易聘請且難以挽留員工。

我父母親年輕未婚時來自潮州;但我們六個兄弟姊妹都是出生於越南。全家一直住在華人聚居最多的「堤岸」。華人都是做大小生意為生的。連本地越南人都學會說粵語,特別需要在生意上能用粵語溝通,他們也讓自己孩子去華文學校讀書。
